STONE, SEA AND WHITE TOWNS

Greece takes a flight and a change from India, landing in a country that invented the word for it and still lives outdoors. Six nights splits cleanly: two in Athens for the Acropolis and the old city, four across the islands, without the mistake of trying to island-hop your way through half the Aegean in a week.

Days move from marble to water. Athens holds the Acropolis, the Agora and Plaka’s lanes, best done by 9 am before the sun bites. The islands slow it down — a caldera cruise and Oia sunset on Santorini, then a quieter base like Naxos or Milos for beaches, tavernas and a ferry ride between.

The land is dry, bright and blue-and-white by design — whitewashed villages against a sea that stays warm into October. Summer is hot, often 33 to 35 degrees, and Santorini’s sunset spots get genuinely crowded by 7 pm. May, June and September are the sweet months: swimmable sea, softer light, thinner queues at the ruins.

Some moments are built for lingering: the Parthenon appearing above the last steps at 8 am, honey-coloured and almost empty; the caldera going gold then rose as the sun sinks behind Oia; a long lunch on a Naxos beach where the only sounds are cicadas, waves and a fork against a plate of grilled vegetables.

Built for couples, honeymooners, culture-lovers and families with children who can walk ancient sites. Not for anyone expecting Santorini to be peaceful in peak summer, not for travellers who want a single beach-resort base without ferries or transfers, and not for those unwilling to plan Schengen visas well ahead.

FAQ

know

Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Greece?

Arrow

Yes — Greece is in the Schengen area, so Indians need a Schengen visa arranged before travel through the appointed visa centre. Appointment slots in peak season can run six to ten weeks out, so start early; the file needs flights, hotels, insurance and funds. Your curator sequences the paperwork, but book the appointment as soon as dates firm up.
