THREE CITIES, ONE REEF
Australia is a long haul from India, usually with one change, and rewards a proper stay. Nine nights spreads across three bases — Melbourne, Cairns and Sydney — for the Great Ocean Road, the Great Barrier Reef and the harbour, linked by internal flights. It is the country’s headline sweep done at a human pace, not a rushed loop.
Days rotate through coast, reef and rainforest. Melbourne gives the MCG, Puffing Billy and a full Great Ocean Road day to the Twelve Apostles. Cairns is the reef base — a boat day of snorkelling, plus Kuranda by rail and Skyrail. Sydney closes it with the harbour, the Opera House, Bondi and a Blue Mountains day trip inland.
The scale is generous and the light is hard and bright — surf coast one day, coral sea the next, blue-hazed eucalyptus ranges after. Seasons are flipped from India, so July is Australian winter: mild in the south around 14 degrees, warm and dry up in tropical Cairns. The reef and the Great Ocean Road are long days worth the driving.
