Jordan sits a short flight and one change from India, a small country stacked with outsized set pieces. Five nights is the honest minimum: a night near Petra to catch it twice, a night in Wadi Rum’s sand, a Dead Sea float and time in Amman, without treating the world’s great ruins as a day trip.
Days build towards Petra and away from it. The Siq walk and the Treasury fill a morning; the Monastery climb and Petra by Night bracket the visit. Wadi Rum follows — 4×4 dunes, rock arches, a camp dinner. Then the descent to the Dead Sea for a float, and Amman’s citadel and mezze to close.
The land is bone-dry and cinematic — the Siq’s 80-metre walls, Wadi Rum’s red sand and wind-carved towers, the Dead Sea’s salt-crusted shore below every other place on earth. Spring and autumn are kindest; high summer bakes past 35 in the desert. Nights in Wadi Rum turn genuinely cold, so pack a layer.
Some moments are built for lingering: the first sliver of the Treasury glowing pink through the Siq’s final crack; the desert going silent at Wadi Rum as the fire dies and the stars thicken; lying back on the Dead Sea and feeling the water refuse to let you sink, salt stinging every small cut.
