Vietnam is three countries wearing one name. Hanoi is grey-green and old, Da Nang is beach-bright and new, Saigon never stops moving. This journey gives you all three without pretending you can know any of them fully in five nights.
Hanoi opens with the Old Quarter and a full unhurried day on Halong Bay. Da Nang and Hoi An bring the Ba Na Hills cable car and lantern-lit evenings by the Thu Bon River, before Ho Chi Minh City closes the trip with the Cu Chi Tunnels and a dinner cruise on the Saigon River.
Internal flights route north to south with the geography, never backtracking, so each region gets felt rather than skimmed. Halong Bay’s limestone towers give way to Ba Na Hills’ cloud-wrapped Golden Bridge, then Hoi An’s lantern-lit river and Saigon’s constant motion close the loop.
Some moments are built for lingering: a boatwoman at Tam Coc rowing with her feet, grinning at your astonishment; the Golden Bridge emerging from cloud at Ba Na Hills, stone fingers first; and lantern light on the Thu Bon River in Hoi An at 7 pm, the water more colour than river.
