From The Field

Our curators have watched the countdown from a stretch of Anjuna sand with no stage, no ticket, just a bonfire and whoever else wandered over — fireworks scattered up and down the coast instead of one choreographed show. The real trick isn’t finding the loudest party. It’s arriving rested enough, after two slow south-Goa days, to actually stay up for it.

Is New Year's Eve in Goa worth the crowds?

Arrow

For a proper beach countdown, yes — few places do it as unpretentiously well. The trick is not spending the whole trip in the crowd, which is why this trip splits south and north rather than basing you in the party belt throughout.

Why does the trip start in the south instead of straight to the party?
