Experience Overview

Web Summit is Europe’s biggest startup gathering — more than 70,000 founders, investors, operators and journalists filling Lisbon’s riverside Altice Arena and FIL halls from 9 to 12 November 2026. For an Indian founder raising, hiring in Europe or hunting press, it compresses six months of cold outreach into four loud days.

The delegation splits by job. Founders run investor meetings booked through the official app weeks before departure; growth and product people work the masterclasses, partner booths and competitor stands; whoever owns PR chases the journalists. Evenings belong to Night Summit, when the conference decants into Bairro Alto’s bars and the real introductions happen standing up.

Lisbon is the pleasure and the problem. The city is compact, cheap by European standards and lovely in November — around 17°C, occasional rain — but Web Summit doubles hotel prices and sells the centre out months ahead. We block rooms early on the metro’s red line, which runs direct to the venue and dodges the taxi crush.

Some moments are built for lingering: the opening night when the arena goes dark and 20,000 phones come up; a fund partner saying “send me the deck tonight” and meaning it; pastéis de nata at a counter in Belém on the quiet last morning, term-sheet maths on a napkin.

Go if you are raising, selling to startups, scouting European talent or building press momentum — and you can prepare properly. Skip it if you want enterprise procurement buyers, who are thin here, or if the team will not book meetings in advance; unprepared attendees just accumulate tote bags.

Everything you
need to know

How early should Indian passport holders start the visa process?

Arrow

Eight to ten weeks, minimum, and we mean it. Portugal's Schengen appointment pipeline from India is one of the most congested in Europe, and November applications stack against year-end travel. We open files in late August, manage the slot hunt and keep a Plan B consulate route where rules allow.

How bad is the Lisbon hotel squeeze?

Last-morning pastéis de nata and espresso, a marked-up pitch deck on the café table.
