This is western India in one arc: Rajasthan’s desert forts and palace towns, Gujarat’s white salt plain and heritage cities, and the long coastline that runs from the Konkan down into Goa. Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Jaisalmer sit against the Thar; the Rann of Kutch spreads out around Bhuj; Ahmedabad and the Statue of Unity anchor the plains; and the shore carries you from quiet Konkan fishing villages to Goa’s beaches and old churches.

What makes the west distinct is the range packed into a single region. You can move from a fort at dawn to a salt flat at dusk, or from marble palaces to a coast where the pace drops away. The architecture is grand and the light is strong, but the distances are real, and the desert and the coast keep very different calendars.

This collection suits travellers who want variety without pretending it all sits next door. It works for first-time visitors drawn to the forts and for returning travellers pairing the Rann or the Konkan with somewhere more familiar. We plan the routing so the driving serves the trip rather than defining it.

When to go. The desert and plains are at their best from roughly November to February, when Rajasthan and Gujarat are comfortable by day and cool at night. Outside that winter window the heat is serious, and we plan around it rather than through it. The Rann of Kutch is a cool-season sight, broadly November to February, and the Rann Utsav runs across those months. The Konkan and Goan coast is most pleasant from November to February as well, before the pre-monsoon humidity builds.
